Control damn it! April 2004 KM on How to Behave at the Conventions
by truthseeker inmy god, this is worst than last years.
i'm not writing the whole thing out, but here are some "convention reminders" for this years district convention.. "let us exhalt his name together" page 3. para 4. please bring a lunch rather than leave the convention site to obtain a meal during the noon break.
this will allow all to enjoy upbuilding association and be present from the very start of the session.

par 4.----"please wear your lapel card at all times, for all three days. Sisters will find that they can readily attach it to their left breast on the bathing suit while swiming at the approved hotel. Brothers can wear it on the front of their trunks, but please use extreme caution when attaching."

Passing the time at JW Assemblies
by Leolaia inlove_truth, in describing the utter dullness of jw assemblies and conventions, just gave me an interesting idea for a thread.
what were some of the ways you tried to make the hours pass?
some of mine: looking at the interesting refracting patterns the arena floodlights made on my eyeglasses when looking thru them at an angle.looking for people i knew from my congregation and others in the mass of people in the arena.counting the number of people leaving the section to go to the bathroompractice writing people's names in elvish scripthaving a conversation with friends a row behind me by passing notes back and forthseeing how many pages of my bible stick together when i slam a wad of gum in between its pages.. what else?

I counted ceiling tiles at the circuit assembly. When we use to park cars, we would wander the parking lot, looking for "intruders", during the sessions. I could alway get young brothers to volunteer for this previledge.

Would You Return To The Organization If You Were Given Total Amnesty?
by minimus inif you knew that the policy was that there would be no more witchhunts, no more disfellowshippings or shunning of any kind, would you be tempted to go back?

by galaxy7 inin some posts i have noticed the mention of smurfs .
was there some publication that i missed from the watchtower that said they were evil??.

The word (gossip) was that a smurf jumped out of a childs arms and ran down the aisle at a neighboring hall. Maybe he didn't like what he was hearing.

Can an ex elder help me please
by orangefatcat ini have been reading the publication, "pay attention to yourself and to all the flock',
under the subject of the "proper view of disfellowshipped and disassociated persons.
unit 5 (a), it says, " the principle set forth in jesus' words, at matthew 10:34-38 has a bearing on situations involving disfellowshepped or disassociated relatives.

Do what is best for your mom and yourself. When I was an elder I can never remember any action taken when it came to association when it involved family members that were d'fed. Elders are told to stay out of family matters, plus what is exactly talked about in conversation is hard to prove.
FYI--- I was d'fed for associating with a disfellowshipped person, but then again I told the elders to blow it out their butt!!! The person I was hanging out with was a old friend. Funny, the Watchtower has association with the U.N. for nine years and thats O.K., but I'm seen once, and its like I committed the crime of the century.

Inactive and Immune
by new light indid you know that page 99 of "pay attention...." (the elders' manual) states that a person who has not associated for a while is basically exempt from discipline?
essentially if you attend a judicial hearing or respond to the elders you are admitting accountability to the "christian congregation.
" therefore, if you walk away from the congregation and simply ignore the elders for long enough and exert no influence on the members, they don't have to pursue you, even if they hear of serious sin.

A sister was out of the borg for years, yet an elder asked another sister in the cong. to "spy" on her to see if another man was visiting her. She had an "attitude" problem with the local elders, so I'm sure they would of had a JC if they could of.

Self control
by trumangirl insince fading, i've noticed my 'self-control' is better.
i mean by that, things that i really believe are wrong or not good for me, i find easier to resist.
not that i did anything 'gross' before, but just things like being gluttonous, bitchy, dishonest, materialistic, all those things that i don't want to do because i know they have bad consequences but do anyway sometimes (because of being 'imperfect'?).

Once the pressure cooker called the Watchtower is off your back, life is easier. There is less fustration and guilt trying to live up to others expectations. Your less likely to over the edge without the constant WT nagging. If your at peace with yourself, it easier to be at peace with others. People do not become destined to have less self control because they leave a highly controlled group. We have the power everyday to be in complete control of ourselves.
